My Son Needs Therapy

While on vacation a few weeks ago, I took Carter to his first beach(if it can be called that). We discovered that he has an intense HATRED for the sand.

Side Note: This doesn't surprise me really, because he hates being dirty or wet, anywhere. If he spills a little water on his shirt while drinking, he cries for you to change his shirt, immediately. While eating something crumbly, he wants you to wash the crumbs off his hands between each bite. He won't walk through the field in our back yard because the tall weeds tickle his legs. He freaks out if the wood chips at the park get into his shoe. If he falls at the park he hates getting the wood chips on his hands and will lift his arms and legs up to avoid touching them. Loves putting his tractors in the dirt but only if he can kneel on the grass and carefully reach the tractors onto the dirt. Get the picture? Now on to the Beach:

The first time we went down there I took his shoes off right before we got in the water and he walked right in, enjoying himself. He hadn't felt the sand yet so enjoyed his time there.
(here I am in a sweatshirt and there are people in Bikinis...I thought it was freezing there. Only 70 degrees and when I left Logan it was a roasty 90 Degrees!)
As soon as we got out of the water and tried to walk back to the grass he felt the sand on his wet feet. He stopped walking and refused to budge. In this pic he is refusing to put both feet down. He stood like this and cried until I carried him. He kept saying "yucky sand!"

We went back the next day and all his cousins got in and took sand baths and played for over an hour in the sand. Carter sat by me on the grass. He desperately wanted to play with the kids, but not at the expense of the sand.

The last day we went to beach for a final time and I hoped he would be able to play a little. These 2 pictures show that that would clearly not happen. He pulled his feet up and refused to stand!
I love this picture......you can see the fear/disgust in his eyes. It was a bit frustrating to have to carry him everywhere but quite funny at the same time. I guess we need to frequent places with sand more often to see if we can save some time and money with Therapy! Or buy water shoes.

Water shoes! Those would be perfect, that's really a great idea. Carter is so funny.... he desperately loves water, too. Too bad there is so much sand before the ocean and some lake water. At least he cares a little bit about being clean. Mitch could care less!
