Halloween

We kicked off the season with pumpkin carving.  I think this was the first year we have ever carved pumpkins!  That may qualify me as a bad mother.

Carter loved the whole process though so I think we will keep the tradition around.  He was very worried each night about whether or not the candles were lit in the pumpkins.

Halloween was a very fun day.  I helped at Carter's Kindergarten Class party and had a blast there.  Jackson had to come with me so his nap was cut short.  This threatened to ruin the night  but luckily snapped out of his grouchiness just in time for Trick or Treating.

Carter knew all along that he wanted to be a Ninja Turtle for Halloween, Raphael to be exact. I thought about making and piecing together a homemade costume for him but then remembered that I don't like doing stuff like that, and am in fact, quite horrible at it.  Target to the rescue.  Jax was my little skunk, a hand me down costume from Carter.  But too cute not to use again.
We had a break through with Carter on this night.  He usually hates to have his face painted.  Last Halloween we had an epic battle, that I ended up losing, and lots of tears from him.  I wasn't going to push the issue again, but I did approach the face paint subject carefully and he actually allowed me!  He would not however, allow me to spray paint his hair.  I didn't even attempt makeup with Jax.

We had a ward party that night with yummy dinner and dessert.  Then we hit the parking lot for some trunk or treating.

After trunk or treating was over, which took all of 10 minutes, the boys were still itching to celebrate.  So we drove around and hit up some local neighborhoods until the boys got too cold.  Both boys loved the experience.  Jackson especially.  Even though he can't eat 97% of the stuff he got, he still loved knocking on doors and yelling Trick or Treat.  I'm not sure he even realized that the goal of the night is to get candy.

We came home and Neil took Carter out for a few last houses.  Jackson and I stayed home and enjoyed a couple pieces of candy.  Carter really had a great Halloween this year as this was the first year he could eat ANYTHING and EVERYTHING in his treat bucket.  He is a huge lover of Kit kats, Reeses Cups, and all chocolate really.  We had to ration out his candy to prevent a sugar high.
