Our Visit to the ER

Last night was a very scary night at our house. We spent almost 3 hours at the ER with Carter. I mentioned in a previous post that we thought Carter was allergic to milk. We weren't sure because he didn't react all the time and it was very mild. But last night we found out that he is for sure VERY allergic to milk. About 5:30 I fed him some peach yogurt and by 7:00 we were in the ER. We had originally planned on going to Idaho Falls last night and were actually on the way when Carter threw up Everywhere and we decided to turn back. Luckily we did and we weren't in the middle of nowhere when Carter reacted.

Once we left our house and drove the 1/4 mile to the ER, Carter went from having dime size hives all over, to his eyes swollen shut, lips 5 times their normal size and having trouble breathing. He didn't even look like my baby and looked more like a black boxer(sorry for that comparison.) He had to have some breathing treatments and 3 shots to get the swelling down and to reduce the swelling in his throat. I felt so bad not being able to do anything and watching them force this mask on him and stabbing many needles in his legs.

Once they got his pulse and oxygen levels back to normal he was a much happier baby. Happy but VERY itchy. He was trying to scratch as best as an uncoordinated baby could. But once the breathing treatments and shots were over he was smiling and kicking around, barely noticing that he was bright red and covered in hives.

So now we're off to an allergist because if he's this allergic to one thing, they are pretty sure there are more culprits. And we also get to carry Epi pens with us just in case this ever happens again. We'll have to give him his own shots on the way to the ER!

So if you ever come to our house again to eat, don't tell Carter about the wonders and goodness of Ice Cream.........I'm afraid he'll never get to taste that.

Oh my goodness! How scary! I am sorry you had to go through this, but I am glad that you figured it out and that he is ok! Poor little guy! I hope he is back to normal today!

What a night, for once we were both at the hospital at the same time! Of course, it would have been cooler if it were the same hospital, but whatever!

Man that is scary. Goodluck with all of that. Poor kid, but don't think he won't ever be able to have milk. I was very allergic as a kid to orange juice and milk. I grew out of it and am just fine now. So there is hope. He is so cute by the way and getting so big. I am jealous you got him sleeping through the night. Hopefully soon for us too!

Scary! Hope they are able to figure out what he's allergic to so this doesn't happen again with something else!

Oh my! I am SO glad he is okay!! Allergies totally freak me out! Hopefully he will outgrow it...my sis had a baby that was allergic to milk until he was 3 and then he just outgrew it.
About the photos...yeah she's in Logan and is just starting out so everything right now is totally FREE except for any photoshop she does (she has a bachelors in graphic design). Call me if you want Carter's or family pics done and I will give you her #!
